My sympathies to all those injured in the Jurong Shipyard accident. It was a serious accident, but could have been worse. The investigations will find out what went wrong, and needs to be put right.
Workplace safety is very important. We owe it to workers to make sure the working environment is safe, and that everyone follows safe work practices. This was why we set up the Workplace Safety and Health Council in 2008. We have made progress: the number of workplace incidents and injuries has come down. But today’s accident reminds us that we must remain vigilant, and do better still. Everyone has a part to play, including employers, workers and safety inspectors. I wish those injured a complete and speedy recovery. – LHL
